Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

At FastMD, we believe that your writing is your own business. We have designed our software from the ground up to respect your privacy and secure your data. This policy explains what happens (and more importantly, what does not happen) to your data when you use the FastMD application and visit our website.

1. 100% Offline Architecture

FastMD is a native, offline desktop application. It runs directly on your computer's operating system (Windows) and does not rely on any remote servers to process, render, or save your text.

All operations—including Markdown rendering, live preview loading, document editing, and PDF/HTML exports—are conducted entirely on your local machine.

2. Zero Data Collection

We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal information. When you use FastMD, the following rules apply:

  • No User Accounts: You do not need to register, create an account, or log in to use the software.
  • No Telemetry: FastMD does not track your keystrokes, your editor usage, or your features usage. No telemetry code is built into the application.
  • No Analytics: There are no tracking scripts, cookies, or analytics services embedded in the software.
  • No Advertising: The application contains no advertisements, sponsored content, or promotional trackers.

3. File Access and Local Processing

FastMD requires access to your local filesystem to perform basic text editing actions (like opening, editing, saving, and exporting files).

  • Your documents are read from and written to your local hard drive under your explicit instructions (e.g. clicking File > Open or File > Save).
  • No file content, metadata, or path information is transmitted over the internet.
  • If you use the PDF export feature, FastMD runs a local print rendering command. If you export a Word Document (DOCX), FastMD runs a local instance of the Pandoc utility. At no point is your content sent to a cloud converter.

4. Update Checks

FastMD includes a helper option to check for application updates. When you manually click "Check for Updates":

  • If the application is running as a Microsoft Store package, it queries the Microsoft Store via native Windows APIs to check for the latest package version and can download and install updates directly from the store.
  • If the application is not running as a Microsoft Store package, it opens the Microsoft Store product page for FastMD in your web browser or store client, allowing you to update it there.
  • All update checks, downloads, and installations are handled entirely by Microsoft services and are subject to Microsoft's Privacy Statement. No personal information or document content is collected or sent by FastMD in this process.

5. External Links

Our website and application contain links to external sites (such as GitHub, the Qt project, or documentation). If you click these links, you will be redirected to third-party web domains. We do not control, and are not responsible for, the privacy practices or content of these external websites. We encourage you to review their respective privacy policies when visiting them.

6. Updates to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our application or legal obligations. Any updates will be posted directly to this page with an updated revision date. Since we do not collect email addresses or user accounts, we recommend checking this page periodically for updates.
